In this article, we will learn the steps to configure Failover on Ruijie SMB devices:

Introduction

DMZ

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): Allows connections from both the Internet and the local network of the company where the workers' equipment is located, but connections from the DMZ to the local network are not allowed.

This is because servers (accessible from the Internet) are more susceptible to attacks that could compromise their security. If a hacker were to invade a server in the demilitarized zone, they would have fewer chances of accessing the entire local network of the company, as connections from the DMZ are blocked by default.

A host-based DMZ redirects all incoming traffic from the exterior to a single LAN device, which is responsible for either redirecting it further or handling the requests itself.

Note: Port forwarding and DMZ cannot be configured simultaneously; it's either one configuration or the other.

Configuration

1.- Access the router and select the "Router or Gateway" tab, depending on the firmware version.

*If you have the default IP, it is 192.168.110.1.

2.- It will open the following menu, where we will proceed to the next section to configure port forwarding.

Advanced -> Port Mapping (Port Forwarding)

3.- Select DMZ to access the section.

4.- Add a rule to activate the DMZ for the IP address of the device to which you want to forward the ports.

5.- Fill in the following box with your information:

Example: You want to set up a DMZ for a router inside the LAN.

  • Name: Identify the rule

  • Destination IP Address: IP of the device

  • Outbound Interface: Select the WAN from which the public IP comes.

  • Status: Enabled

Click "Accept" to apply the rule.

The rule would look like this.

Verification

Perform a test with your public IP related to a port that the device to which the DMZ was redirected is utilizing.
