In the following article, we will see how to configure RMS: VPN, without using a Public IP.

VPN

We understand how cumbersome it can be to manage large-scale networks containing multiple devices. We designed RMS VPN to offer the easiest way to configure VPN connections to your entire infrastructure. Now you can remotely, easily, and securely reach multiple endpoints simultaneously without worrying about configuring different protocols or setting up servers. We'll take care of all this for you in the background!

Benefits:

  1. Unlimited VPN clients.

  2. Highly trusted openVPN protocol.

  3. Quick and easy setup.

  4. Does not require a Public IP.

Note:

To use the VPN service, the device must be active on the Teltonika RMS platform.

Router and Client Configuration in RMS

First, you need to have the RUT or TRB added to the RMS platform, "how to add a device to RMS".

Creating a HUB:

Grouping of devices and clients

To configure, go to the option:

RMS VPN -> VPN HUBS

Here in HUBS, click on "ADD NEW VPN HUB +"

The only thing we need is to give a name to our HUB, as shown below:

Once created, we will have our new HUB where the Router or Gateway and the clients that will connect to each other via VPN must be registered.

Adding clients to the HUB

To configure our HUB, we have to click on the name of our HUB:

Here, click on the clients tab to add devices and VPN clients.

Clicking on the "ADD CLIENT" button, we will have two options of clients to add: Devices and users.

Register Teltonika devices:

Select the "RMS Devices" option and search for our device:

Here, we select which devices from the registered equipment will belong to our HUB.

When added, it will appear as shown in the image above.

Register users to connect:

Select the "CUSTOMER USER" option and create a User.

Here, unlimited users can be generated, and it will appear as shown.

After adding the users, they will appear as shown in the image above.

Route Configuration

Now the subnets to be accessed on each device must be registered.

Note:

Each router must have its own network segment:

  • Teltonika - LAN Network Configuration new WebUI

Now select the ROUTES tab, here we will see the devices and users that will work together:

Here we activate on the routers to which interface we are going to communicate, in this case, we activate the "LAN" interface.

To register a device's subnet, click on the ADD ROUTE button:

Select the MANUAL option and register the client device's subnet:

When the subnets of the different devices are added, we will have a list as shown below:

Connecting Users to the VPN

To connect remote user computers, you need to have the OpenVPN Connect tool.

To allow a user to connect, you just have to share the .openvpn configuration file with them. To do this, go back to the "CLIENTS" option and click on "ACTION".

Import Profile to OpenVPN Connect

Once you have received the profile as an OpenVPN file, you need to import the profile by selecting the file.

Once imported, just activate it to connect.

Router Adjustment

In the Router Firewall, you need to add the RMS Zone to the firewall.

Networking > Firewall > General Settings

Edit the first LAN -> WAN rule and add the RMS zone here.

It will look like this:
